parquet care

Quick Answer

Hardwood floors in Dubai stay in good shape with pH-neutral cleaning, humidity control and periodic sanding and refinishing. Light wear can be handled with a screen-and-recoat, while deep scratches need full sanding. Avoid soaking the floor, keep indoor humidity steady and use protective pads under furniture.

Key Facts

Introduction

Hardwood adds warmth to Dubai homes that tile cannot match. It also demands more thought, because the UAE’s climate swings from very dry air-conditioned rooms to humid outdoor conditions. This guide explains how to choose, clean and refinish a wooden floor so it lasts. Many homeowners start by searching hardwood flooring dubai and only later discover how much maintenance matters.

What Is Hardwood Flooring?

Hardwood flooring is made from timber species such as oak, walnut, teak or ash. It comes in two main forms:

• Solid hardwood: one piece of timber, sandable many times.
• Engineered hardwood: a hardwood top layer over plywood layers, more stable with temperature and moisture changes.

In Dubai, engineered boards are widely used because they handle seasonal changes in humidity and are often suitable over underfloor systems, subject to manufacturer guidance.

How to Clean a Wooden Floor Properly

Searches for wooden floor cleaning dubai often follow a bad experience with a soaked mop. Water is the main enemy of timber.

Daily and Weekly Routine

1. Sweep or use a soft-bristle vacuum to remove sand and dust.
2. Mop with a barely damp microfibre pad.
3. Use a pH-neutral cleaner made for wood.
4. Dry any wet patches straight away.
5. Place mats at entrances to trap grit.

What to Avoid

• Steam mops, which push heat and moisture into joints
• Bleach or ammonia
• Vinegar mixtures that may dull finishes
• Dragging furniture

Floor Polishing in Dubai: What It Involves

People researching floor polishing in dubai are usually referring to one of two services:

• Screen and recoat (buff and coat): the surface is lightly abraded and a fresh coat applied. Suitable when the finish is dull but the wood is intact.
• Full sand and refinish: the old finish is sanded off, the floor is levelled and new stain and sealer are applied.

Step-by-Step Sanding Process

1. Clear the room and protect adjoining areas from dust.
2. Sand with coarse grit to remove old finish.
3. Repeat with medium grit to remove marks.
4. Finish with fine grit for a smooth surface.
5. Vacuum thoroughly.
6. Apply stain if required.
7. Apply two to three coats of sealer or lacquer, allowing drying time.

Engineered boards have a thin wear layer, so ask how many times they can be sanded before work starts.

Handling Dubai’s Climate

Humidity

Timber expands in humid conditions and shrinks in dry air. Keeping air conditioning at a steady setting helps, as does avoiding wet mopping.

Sunlight

Strong sun through glass can lighten or darken boards unevenly. Use curtains, blinds or UV film, and rearrange rugs occasionally to prevent patchy colour.

Underfloor Heating

If present, use boards approved for it and follow temperature limits from the manufacturer.

Real-World Example

A villa owner in Arabian Ranches noticed grey scuff marks and a dull finish in the living area after five years. A professional assessment showed the wear layer was intact, so a screen and recoat restored the shine without full sanding. Advisers at Risala Furniture and Interiors LLC often recommend assessing before sanding, since unnecessary sanding reduces floor lifespan.

Standards and Resources

European standard EN 13489 covers multilayer parquet and EN 14342 covers wood flooring in general, both useful when comparing products. The National Wood Flooring Association in the US publishes care and installation guidance. Check which standards apply to your chosen product and confirm with the supplier.
